I'm 6 months pregnant and it took me a little over an hour to put it together by myself (I didn't want to wait for hubby). The package is really heavy, so hubby had to move it to where I put it together. It is a little more redish then my dark cherry crib and dresser, but I still like them together (you really have to be looking to see a difference). The instructions were clear with pictures and written instructions. If you plan to take off the top section so that you have a flat top later to use it as a bookshelf, just know that you will have 5 holes on the top where you connected the changing table edges. However, even keeping that part on, I still think it will look and work great as a bookshelf or toy storage area. The sides and top are solid wood. The shelves are mdf.
