But a few points are worthy of note:This unit was on sale at a remarkably low price at a major warehouse club (name starts with C). Getting a full-featured GPS -- with lifetime maps and traffic -- at these kinds of prices really is amazing. I primarily rely on audible directions from my GPS, and supplement those by looking at the screen. (For some strange reason, I prefer to look where I'm going while driving.) In my opinion, Magellan provides the best audible directions for the driver compared to the other major brands. For example, I own a fairly recent Garmin unit and was able to try a new TomTom for several days as well. All of these units announce turns in advance, but the TomTom does not tell you when you are coming close to a turn. The Garmin does, but Magellan goes one better: it sounds an audible signal just as you reach the turn... I have owned a number of Garmins and my latest, and favorite is the NUVI 1390 LMT. This is the standard I use to compare others. When I saw the Magellen 2120 and noticed the added features I thought I would try it.First Disappointment: I mounted both GPS's and set out to take a 100 mile (1hr 50minute) trip that I am very familiar with. I was immediately disappointed when the Magellen mapped a route that would have taken me 17 miles out of my way on a 100 mile trip. The ETA on the Magellen was 27 minutes later than my Garmin. I checked the setup in the Magellen to see if there were route preferences that maximized freeway use but it was not. It was set for 'fastest' route.. but this was anything but fast. So I took the more familiar trip on secondary roads as the Garmin directed. At this point I expected the Magellen to re-route itself to assume a similar track. NO! It repeatedly refused to accept... I don't think I have ever hated a piece of technology as much as this thing.I went from an older Garmin GPS to this Magellan unit. What interested me is having updated traffic information and free map updates. I also definitely wanted a touch screen that was more responsive, and hopefully a faster processor, than my 5 year old Garmin. Right of the box, I didn't have a good impression. The unit is light, toy light, and I had to spend about an hour updating it online after having to sign up for a Magellan account. The cradle that holds the unit in a car is really cheap. I thought it was going to break just putting it in the cradle. The buttons on the touch screen are pretty small. I had to use the tip of my finger just to be sure I hit it correctly.
